Eighteen area students are getting a crash course in medicine.
The first Medquest camp happening in Owen Sound is helping highschool students get into a career in medicine.
The camp, which runs until Friday is giving a first hand look at what it is like to practice medicine.
Camp instructor and first year medical student from the University of Western Ontario Frank Myslik says students will learn how to get into med school and what it is like to be a doctor.
Myslik says they will also get hands on experience like how to caster, suture, take blood pressure and learn how to deliver a baby from a simulation dummy.
Another instructor and med school student Mike Mitchell says studies have shown students who are from a rural area who go into medicine tend to go back to their local area and practice.
Mitchell says that is the main reason behind the camp.
The program is run out of OSCVI but job shadows will take place at the Grey Bruce Health Centre.
Mitchell says they will also learn about emergency drowning situations at Sauble Beach for one day.
The camp is run by the Southwestern Ontario Medical Education Network and sponsored by the University of Western Ontario.
