Updating a story we first told you about in February.
Collingwood’s hospital is planning to build on part of its land where trees were cut down during the winter.
Town CAO Gord Norris says talks have been continuing with hospital officials to reach a solution to the situation.
The hospital cut the trees without getting permission from the town and officials have said they didn’t realize at the time that permission was needed.
Norris says the hospital wants to start construction right away and officials are talking with the planning department.
The CAO says there is enough land there and the hospital is allowed to build on it.
Gord Norris adds trees will be planted as a barrier around the new building.
When asked if charges could still be laid against the hospital for cutting down the trees, Norris repeatedly said only that both sides are working towards an amicable solution.
The hospital just announced it’s receiving 1.9 million dollars from Simcoe County to move administrative office space to the new building to make more room in the emergency room and O.R.
