A brand new “Environmentally Friendly” Bridge is now open near Clarksburg.
The Grier Creek Bridge Opening was held Friday morning with officials from the Federal and Provincial governments on hand, along with local politicians.
Grey County Transportation Director Gary Shaw says in total, the bridge on the Blue Mountains/Euphrasia townline just north of Grey Road 40 cost about 2.1 million dollars.
Originally, it was expected to cost 1.5 million and Ottawa and Queens Park contributed just under half a million dollars each.
Shaw says neighbours were worried that going from a single lane 1920’s bridge to a new double lane bridge would ruin the picturesque lifestyle in the area.
During the Environmental Assessment process, Grey County agreed to a number of changes to make it more appealing to the eye, and also agreed to lower the speed limit on the bridge to 50 kmh instead of 80.
Construction on the new bridge began about a year ago, and was recently completed.
