Hanover and Brockton have partnered on a venture designed to decrease the amount of plastic bags that end up at its shared Hanover Walkerton Landfill site.
The 15 thousand dollar initiative involves the purchase of 10 thousand reusable shopping bags that will be put into circulation this month.
These reusable bags will be sold to the public at a loss for a dollar a bag.
They will be sold at various local businesses and stores throughout Hanover and Walkerton.
Businesses from each community will also be able to sponsor logos on the shopping bags.
Hanover Councillor Peter Hambly calls it a worthwhile venture considering the fact it takes 100 years to break down a plastic bag at a landfill.
