The annual Ford-Wayne Gretzky Golf Classic is underway in the Thornbury Region.
The week long event which utilizes both The Raven at Lora Bay and the Georgian Bay Club builds towards four days of Pro-Am play featuring the Nationwide Pros Thursday through Sunday.
More than 150 pros on the Nationwide Tour are teamed with an equal number of celebrity golfers from the world of sports and entertainment.
For the celebrities and the Wayne Gretzky Foundation, this is an enjoyable fundraiser for a variety of charities they support.
For the Nationwide Pros, this is a regular stop on their annual tour that sees the top 25 players at the end of the year graduate to the PGA Tour.
Georgian Bay Club General Manager Steve Prest says there is a level of excitement that builds through a number of events early in the week and the start of competition on Thursday and climaxes with the final round on Sunday.
This is the second consecutive year the event has been staged at both Lora Bay & at the Georgian Bay Club.
Prest admits the experience of last year has created a very good working relationship with everyone involved.
With the various prongs of fundraising, socializing and competition all meshed into one week, Prest thoroughly believes the Georgian Triangle and the Grey-Simcoe & Bruce County area benefits the most from the showcase.
Day passes for the event are 15 dollars with youngsters under 12 admitted free.
