Bruce County is “Well Aware”.
The county, recently won a 2009 Sustainable Community Award, for using the Well Aware Program through Green Communities Canada.
It’s a program that educates rural residential well owners about well maintenance and how to keep common groundwater healthy and safe.
The award was granted by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities earlier this month at the FCM conference in British Columbia.
Bruce County is one of seven to receive the award in Ontario.
There are approximately 750 thousand private well owners in Ontario who are wholly responsible for their own water supplies.
