Formosa’s Immaculate Conception may be one of the smallest schools in Bruce Grey — but it has one of the biggest hearts.
The Catholic students raised over 15 thousand dollars this year.
The money was used to build a school in Sri Lanka and provide the community with a well and medical supplies.
This is the second school in the last two years that has been built thanks to the fundraising efforts of Immaculate Conception School students.
Last year the students raised 85 hundred dollars to build a school in Sierra Leone.
It’s part of Free The Children, a network made up of children from 45 countries that have helped to build over 500 schools in 16 developing nations.
Teacher Amy Kieffer is proud of her students and says their social justice actions serve as a shining example for all Grey Bruce students.
Immaculate Conception has a student population of just 200.
Students Nicole Billington and Erin Cantlon both say it’s gratifying to know that their little school can make such a big difference.
In September — students will once again begin efforts to raise money to build another school somewhere in a third world country.
