When it comes to development delays in Brockton, Mayor Charlie Bagnato isn’t going to lie down.
Bagnato commented earlier this month during a Council meeting that there are a number of planning applications being held up by Saugeen Conservation.
Board Chair Doug Freiburger responded by telling Bayshore Broadcasting News last week that there were no delays adding Bagnatos comments were embarrassing.
At Monday nights Council meeting, Bagnato says he laughed when he heard Freiburgers remarks and would not dignify it with a response.
He says he was urged to call in to react but refused.
He says Freiburger — the Deputy Mayor of Saugeen Shores — is shooting himself in the foot by protesting too much.
Bagnato says it was the developers who first brought the issue to his attention.
He says the Municipality has been trying to get seniors housing for several years with no luck.
He says another developer — Cap Wesley — gave up on plans for a commercial development down by the Saugeen River in Walkerton though he is signing on to another development.
Bagnato says the Spitzig development plans were submitted in March and did not get completed until June 4th.
He says they could have started building in April but instead have wasted three months of construction.
