Owen Sound is billing the city’s 2009 Canada Day celebrations as the biggest ever.
Event Facilitator Doug Cleverley says they’ve jam packed Kelso Beach Park with activities for all ages.
For the kids there is face painting, carnival games, mini putt, the always popular waterslide, and some new rides.
Cleverley says they’ve also focused on seniors, with Chartwell Select running games.
On top of all that there is also a magic show, helicopter rides, a military display, and the return of Art in the Park.
In the afternoon, the entertainment kicks off with the return of the Fulfillment of a Dream Music Festival showcasing Aboriginal performers from across the area.
Cleverley describes the evening lineup as ‘Blues, Bluegrass, Bagpipes, and Brass’ and says there will be a little something for everyone.
The Bearcats are back this year as the headliners, taking the stage at 9 PM.
And Cleverley says it wouldn’t be Canada Day without a spectacular fireworks display.
He says the city has spared no expense on the 10-thousand dollar, 20 minute show by PyroWorld from Stayner.
Cleverley says despite rain in the forecast, they are planning to go ahead with the fireworks at 10 PM.
He says they can only be called off by high winds, very low clouds, or thunder and lightning.
In fact, Cleverley says the whole day is going ahead rain or shine – he just asks people to dress appropriately for the weather.
Kelso Beach Park opens for the Canada Day celebrations at noon, with a suggested donation of two dollars to enter.
