The Friends of Kincardine Hospital want financial details for the site as part of their efforts to develop a case for having the facility operate independently.
Paul Davies says they don’t allocate corporate costs by site.
Davies says the entire corporation receives one bill, and not four separate ones for its various expenses.
He says revenue from the Ministry of Health is also received as a single lump sum.
As for ensuring doctors are available to cover all shifts at the in the E-R department at the Kincardine hospital — Davies says it might be easier to meet the challenge this year.
He says a new doctor is about to begin practicing in town, and extra resources are now available through Health Force Ontario that weren’t available last year.
Davies notes a recent study on emergency departments by the South West Local Health Integration Network indicates access to emergency care in Kincardine is one of the most tenuous in Ontario because of winter road closures.
He says that factor means the future of the emergency department in Kincardine is likely quite secure.
