The announcement by the Ontario government to hold off on a new nuclear build at Darlington will not affect any plans by Bruce Power.
Spokesperson Steve Cannon says his company will move forward with its plans for refurbishment and potential expansion.
Cannon says if anything, the province has reiterated they want nuclear to be part of their energy mix.
He says the province wants 14 thousand megawatts of power generated by nuclear and Bruce Power has committed to 63 hundredmegawatts from the Tiverton facility.
Cannon says in western Canada they’re narrowing down the potential site of a nuclear build in Saskatchewan and should have that announcement by the end of the year.
A site has already been chosen in Alberta and they may launch an environmental assessment next year.
The new build at Darlington near Oshawa was put on hold Monday after Energy Minister George Smitherman voiced concerns about cost overruns and a murky future at Atomic Energy of Canada–the successful bidder for the build.
