Hanover wants the Ministry of Culture to open the purse strings and dole out more cash for libraries.
Council is lobbying the province to increase its grants to 15 per cent of library revenue.
Since 1985 the province has decreased its annual grants from 15 per cent to 4 per cent of annual revenue.
Hanover Chief Librarian Bill VanKeuren says now is an ideal time to request additional funding.
The Ministry of Culture is currently updating its policies related to supporting public libraries.
Of Hanover’s 420 thousand dollar library budget, only 14 thousand dollars comes from the province.
VanKeuren says more funding is needed to keep the library current in these times of technological advances.
He says the library is so much more than a book lending facility.
VanKeuren says it is life long learning, serving as a resource center a gathering place and the community hub.
