A bit of a shocker out of Arran Elderslie.
The municipality’s Chief Building Official, Craig Johnston, has been dismissed.
Mayor Ron Oswald tells Bayshore Broadcasting News council received ‘concrete documentation’ that Johnston not only designed a couple of local buildings..but also issued the building permits and did the final inspections….a direct conflict of interest and a breach of his contract.
Oswald says Johnston also didn’t reveal the information when asked by municipal officials.
A recent audit cleared Johnston of any wrong doing in the building department…but Oswald says they didn’t have proof at that time…only rumours..and he says they couldn’t act on rumours.
When the information came forward… council re opened the audit and informed Johnston of his dismissal yesterday.
He says its a busy time of year for the building department so the C-B-O in Brockton will help them out until they hire a new one.
