It was time to spent with family and friends that most of us take for granted.
Ian Hyland — the 14 year old Owen Sound teen who’s now in a wheelchair — was allowed to leave his rehab facility in Toronto for 24 hours this week..to attend his Grade 8 graduation at Hillcrest school.
Ian tells Bayshore Broadcasting News it was a little overwhelming to come back home and see all his friends and family once again.
He says the support from the community has also been overwhelming.
Almost 60 thousand dollars has been raised to help the Hyland family with some of their expenses.
While Ian had to return to his rehab facility — he says as soon as the retro fitting of his house is complete — he’ll be allowed to come home for weekends.
The Hyland family has been told Ian may even be back home in time to attend Grade 9 at West Hill this year.
Ian says the doctors are amazed at his determined progress but adds he misses playing lacrosse — which was his entire life before the accident.
