It’s the contest nobody won.
Saugeen Shores Councillor Fred Schildroth recently held is annual recycling challenge to his council colleagues.
Schildroth displayed several common product containers on a table and asked councillors to spend the meeting trying to decide if any of them could not be put in a curbside blue box.
At the end of the meeting, Schildroth told them that all of the items — which included aerosol cans, paint cans, glass jars, and plastic jugs — could be recycled.
Schildroth is a member of the Bruce Area Solid Waste Recycling board.
He says his annual challenge is meant to bring awareness of what can and cannot be recycled and to have some fun among councillors.
Schildroth says it raises awareness for seasonal residents who come from other communities where recycling programs are different than in Saugeen Shores.
He wants them to understand that recycling in Saugeen Shores is just as important as in wherever they reside for the rest of the year.
