A Grey County dark ale is shining brightly after picking up a gold medal at an international beer competition in Montreal.
Neustadt Springs 10W30 English brown ale won the gold medal at the Mondial de la Biere contest in Quebec.
Brewery co owner Val Stimpson says this was the first time they entered this competition and were quite surprised that they managed to take the top prize considering how tough the competition was.
In fact she says no micro brewery from Ontario has ever taken a gold medal at this competition so they are quite proud of their accomplishment.
Stimpson says the Quebec brewery’s picked up 8 of the gold medals, a Spanish brewery collected one and they were awarded the other medal.
She says as a result of this award more people outside of Ontario will now know about their product and that will result in more demand for their locally produced beer.
Stimpson says to meet that demand, they have three more fermentation tanks on order which will help them increase production of their four different brands of beer.
She says the 10W30 ale has been a huge hit since they introduced it in 2003 and has collected silver medals at the 2004 Canadian and World beer awards.
Stimpson says this is the first gold medal for this ale.
