Ministry of Environment Staff will be moving into the new Grey Bruce health unit by mid-August.
The MOE has decided to lease six thousand square feet of space on the third floor of the nearly one year old Health unit building on Owen Sound’s waterfront.
Before staff move in, about 300 thousand dollars worth of renovation work is being done in the building.
Health Unit Media Co-ordinator Drew Ferguson says the space is currently vacant, so the 10 year lease with the MOE will help the Grey Bruce health unit pay down it’s mortgage faster.
The lease is worth about 100 thousand dollars per year.
The 60 thousand square foot building cost 17 million dollars, and Ferguson says the rest of the building is occupied now.
He says the MOE has been in discussions with the Health unit since 2008, looking to move into the new building and consolidate it’s operations.
Currently, the MOE has a number of offices including one in Owen Sound’s industrial park.
Ferguson says having the MOE in the health unit building will be helpful, since the two work hand in hand on several projects.
