Kincardine and their Economic Development Committee could go their separate ways.
Councillor Mike Leggett put forth the idea last week and suggested the committee run as a separate corporation rather than under control of Council.
Leggett says they have been trying to look at ways to help stakeholders and other interested parties who would like to move or establish a business in the municipality.
Leggett says if the committee answers to Council there are some rules that have to be followed.
He says as a separate entity the committee wouldn’t be bound by the rules and allows for more freedom and to take more risks.
He says they can raise their own funds and partner with corporations and businesses on ventures.
Leggett says the current committee will be getting together to discuss whether to remain under the municipal umbrella or go as a private corporation.
He says they will take the information and present it to Council at a future meeting.
