Huron County has its second confirmed case of H-1-N-1 flu.
The Health Unit is reporting, the adult was not hospitalized and is recovering at home.
The person had contact with someone diagnosed with H1N1 Flu Virus.
While we don’t usually see influenza in the summertime, the H1N1 Flu Virus is like seasonal flu.
Public Health Nurse Christina Taylor says to stop the spread of any germ, people should pay particular attention to good hand washing.
Taylor says there’s no evidence right now that anything has changed in terms of the severity of the virus.
In Ontario, only a small number of people have needed hospitalization.
Most make a full recovery without any complications.
To reduce the risk of spread of respiratory illness people should frequently wash their hands, sneeze or cough into a sleeve or arm, stay home if you’re sick and, frequently clean commonly touched surfaces such as keyboards, doorknobs and countertops.
Symptoms for influenza are similar to those for seasonal flu: headache, chills, cough, fever, loss of appetite, muscle aches and fatigue, runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes and throat irritation.
The health unit will post updates about any future H1N1 Flu Virus cases in Huron County on its website at www.huroncounty.ca/health
