The first Relay for Life event in Grey Bruce begins tonight.
The Cape Croker Indian Park hosts the annual 12 hour fundraiser at 7 PM.
It’s an event where teams of 8 to 12 people take turns walking a track all night until 7 AM to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Cape Croker is the only First Nation community in Ontario host a Relay for Life event.
Relay for Life Fundraising Co-ordinator Karen Neerhoff says the community embraces the event and native dancers join the participants at the park.
This is the third year for Cape Croker host the Relay.
Last year — 17 teams and 156 participants raised over 39 thousand dollars.
Neerhoff expects it will be an emotional night for some people as they begin the evening with a victory lap for cancer survivors.
As always — luminaries will be on sale, where people can purchase a luminary in remembrance of a loved on and they will line the track at the park.
Neerhoff says Relay for Life is a great way for friends and families to come together and celebrates lives as well as fight cancer.
There are 6 other Relay for Life events in Bruce Grey this summer.
