The Big Canoe is being celebrated in Tobermory this weekend.
The 35th annual Chi Cheemaun Festival began last night with a Fashion Show and continues until Sunday.
Cathy Addison — one of the members of the organizing committee — says the entire community comes out for the celebration.
But she also notes the weekend marks the return of hundreds of former residents who want be a part of the activities.
Tonight’s highlights include a Shoreline Fireworks Champagne Cruise at 8 PM followed by a fireworks show at the harbour at 10:15 PM.
The JP Johnstone Slo-Pitch tournament is being held all weekend.
There’s also a Firefighter’s Pancake Breakfast at 7 AM tomorrow along with a book and pie sale and kids events.
There’s also a Classic Car Show at the Ferry Dock – a fish dinner and a 50’s and 60’s dance.
A silent auction will also be held at the Community Centre from Noon till 7 PM tomorrow and Addison says the money raised will go back into the community.
The Festival ends Sunday with more activities — including a 5-K Run Walk or Roll and a Church Service at 10:30 AM.
