The Township of Georgian Bluffs is moving ahead with its biodigester project.
Georgian Bluffs and the Township of Chatsworth have signed an agreement to move forward with a biodigester project that has been in the works for years.
The Township received over 1.6 million dollars in funding from the provincial and federal governments for the project earlier this month.
Mayor Alan Barfoot says the two Townships will split the remaining 830 thousand dollar cost.
He says the next steps are working with their consultants to come up with a design plan.
Barfoot says they will be needing a lot of European technology because it is the first time a process like this has been done from a Municipal standpoint.
A biodigester will process sewage from septic tanks, which will produce methane gas and will in turn generate electricity.
Barfoot says the biodigester will be located in Georgian Bluffs at their sewage lagoon.
He says Georgian Bluffs has the most septic systems in Grey County and Chatsworth is not far behind them.
Barfoot says in the long run, it is the right thing to do because sewage will no longer be placed on farm fields.
