Grey County’s first and only winery is going gang busters again this season.
The owners of Coffin Ridge Winery in Annan want to make sure they don’t sell out too quickly this year.
General Manager Mike Todd says although they’re thrilled with last year’s success…shutting down after running out of wine 9 weekends into the season wasn’t so great.
They’re hoping to double that this year and as a result have also doubled production to 11 hundred cases.
He says they can only import as many grapes as they’re able to grow themselves in Grey County so production will be limited for a few years.
Todd says the micro climate in Annan has been great for growing the vines with the moderating effect of the water and a good slope to protect the grapes from spring frost.
In only its second season, Coffin Ridge already boasts a gold, silver and two bronze medals for its wine.
Todd says they’ve really been able to play up the marketing aspects of Coffin Ridge with signatures wines such as ‘Into the Light White’ and ‘Back from the Dead Red’ which is already sold out this season.
New this year are coffin gift boxes which Todd says are selling like hotcakes.
