The master plan for the overall improvement of the downtown core of Port Elgin is moving forward.
Saugeen Shores Councillor Luke Charbonneau says the Community Improvement Plan — or CIP — committee has one more meeting planned for tonight before they sit down put the plan on paper.
Charbonneau says there have been several public meetings held where issues like parking, traffic and environment have come up.
He says tonight’s meeting will focus on property standards and facade improvements.
Tonight’s meeting is open to the public at 7:30 PM at the council chambers at the town hall.
Charbonneau says a draft plan will be put together this summer and then perhaps a couple of more public meetings will be held to look at the final product.
He hopes to have the public meetings late this summer.
The plan is to then get it to council for approval and have everything ready by the end of this year.
Charbonneau says he believes there will be more senior level of government funding for downtown improvements a year from now and he wants to be ready to advantage of that.
There’s no cost line on what the changes would be but some of the ideas that have been presented include new light standards for the downtown; new trees and re-landscaped parks.
However, the main issues on the table were parking and traffic flow in what is considered downtown Port Elgin.
The boundaries are Eugenie to Bricker to Market to Waterloo Streets back to Eugenie.
