In a somewhat unusual move, Arran-Elderslie council has decided to renegotiate the contract it has with it’s chief building official, Craig Johnston.
Johnston has a contract with the municipality until 2016, but Mayor Ron Oswald says council decided to open up the agreement so a better job description can be inserted into it.
The move follows an investigation by an outside firm that looked at 60 building permit files from the years 2006 thru 2008.
Oswald says KPMG Forensic Incorporated didn’t find any bombshell in the files, but urged council to formalize a job description for the chief building official.
In total, there were 16 recommendations to Arran-Elderslie council — most dealing with operational policies.
The Mayor says there had been some complaints from residents about how building permits were handled, so they are making changing in department policies.
