There are big plans at Scenic Caves Nature Adventure in the Blue Mountains.
A skating loop, a new administration building and storage buildings are among future plans for Scenic Caves.
Owner Rob Thorburn says the skating loop and low-level lighting on the nordic ski trails are part of an effort to attract more winter visitors.
About 100 thousand people visited Scenic Caves last year.
Thorburn says with winter season visitors make up about 12 per cent of that total.
The quarter-mile skating loop and adjacent ice rink would be sited to allow skaters to enjoy the view but — like other Scenic Caves amenities — wouldn’t be visible from below.
Thorburn says lighting on the ski trails would be low key, emulating the effects of a moonlit night.
He adds the administration and storage buildings are badly needed.
Both aspects of the operation are currently located in Collingwood, about 15 minutes from the site.
Storage for various tractors, wagons, trail groomers and other vehicles is the first priority.
The existing storage site in Collingwood is no longer available.
The plans also include moving an existing viewing deck to a new location that will provide a better view of the surrounding landscape and Georgian Bay.
Thorburn says the improvements would be phased in over the next several years.
