With the federal deficit continuing to climb, Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb is defending Prime Minister Harper and Finance Minister Jim Flaherty.
When it comes to Canada’s economic position, Lobb says compared to other nations, our country can handle it.
He bases this on the gross domestic product, saying that our deficit compared to the GDP our country is producing kind of balances out.
Flaherty says Canada is in the best shape of any G-7 country.
When compared to the United States, the UK, the European Union and China, Lobb says their deficits are nearly four times the one we are facing.
Flaherty recently said there are cautious signs that Canada’s economy is on the path to recovery along with the rest of the world.
He also promises that as recovery takes hold, Canada will lead the way.
As far as calls for Minister Flaherty to step down, Lobb says those calls are totally unjustified and that the Harper Government has done everything required of them from the opposition.
