The World Health Organization has declared the first global flu pandemic in more than four decades, and a new case has now been confirmed in Grey Bruce.
W-H-O officials say the new pandemic is expected to be moderate.
The declaration puts drugmakers on a path to fast-track a vaccine for swine flu — but that could be months away.
Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health, Doctor Hazel Lynn, says a second case of H-1-N-1 has now been confirmed in the area.
A young woman was tested early this month (June 2nd), but is already recovering.
Doctor Lynn says the 20 year old woman has not been travelling to Mexico or anywhere else…
The Grey Bruce Health Unit does not plan to make any changes, despite the appearance of a second confirmed case of H1N1 flu in Grey Bruce — and the upgrade by the WHO to a pandemic.
Doctor Lynn says there is nothing schools or hospitals need to do, other than monitor for new cases.
She advises everyone to wash their hands frequently — as a means of staying free of the virus.
