Huron-Bruce Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell is concerned about the end to funding for the Youth Action Alliance Program at the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
The McGuinty government has decided to stop funding the program that focuses on anti-tobacco use education among youth.
300 thousand dollars from the province normally supports the program.
Mitchell says her government made a solid commitment to its Smoke Free Ontario initiative and she’s concerned about the withdrawal of the funding.
She is discussing the matter with the office of Health Promotion Minister Margaret Best and the Grey Bruce Health Unit to see if anything can be done.
Mitchell says the health unit informed her the cuts had been made and that led her to get in touch with the minister’s office.
Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Progressive Conservative MPP Bill Murdoch has launched a petition to pressure the McGuinty government to save the Youth Action Alliance.
