Collingwood continues to work on making this summer’s Wakestock a safe event for everyone.
Director of Leisure Services, Peter Dunbar, tells us department heads have been reviewing past stories from previous Wakestock Associations to learn from their mistakes.
Dunbar says staff are working on plans to control all aspects of the festival as best they can.
Wakestock was held in Wasaga Beach for three years ending in 2004 when hundreds of rowdy fans were arrested for drunken behaviour and fights.
Since then the events have been held at Toronto’s Centre Island.
Dunbar says holding Wakestock at Millenium Park is a good idea because it’s an area that can be controlled.
He says people will buy their tickets and then be well supervised by police as they come and go.
Dunbar tells us the organizers are also working on securing more parking and shuttle services to take people from the lots to the park since on-site parking is very limited.
He says there will be absolutely no camping at the park.
Dunbar says police and the fire department have determined there is enough space at the park to sell 82 hundred tickets for Wakestock.
Dunbar adds the organizers have been given until June 18th to perfect their plan and meet the expectations put forward by the department heads so there are no loose ends for the festival.
Wakestock runs from August 7th to 9th.
