The Township of Georgian Bluffs and the Town of South Bruce Peninsula are gearing up for a visit from some big name bands.
Big Music Fest has received the final green light from Georgian Bluffs Council.
The festival, taking place at the Wiarton Keppel International Airport on June 27th will feature Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip along with Sam Roberts Band, Arkells and The Spades.
Chair of the airport board and Deputy Mayor Dwight Burley says the event is well underway.
Burley says the final approval for the licence application was delayed because of concerns with garbage control.
He says the issue was over looked at first – but the airport board and the promoters have agreed to share the cost for garbage control and clean-up.
Burley says they will manage the garbage with the help of many volunteers and large amounts of garbage and recycling containers.
Other areas of concerns are around traffic, policing and safety.
Burley says to accommodate traffic a temporary road will be made off of Concession 21 – entering into the East runway of the airfield.
He says it will help control traffic volume through the Town of Wiarton.
Burley says although the road is temporary – they will keep it in place over the next decade.
He says the promoters are planning a 10 year venue – meaning the festival will go on at the airfield for the next 10 years – if approved by council.
The ticket cut-off is 15 thousand and more than 12 thousand tickets have been sold for the festival.
The airfield is jointly owned by the Town of South Bruce Peninsula and the Township of Georgian Bluffs.
