Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch wants to save the Youth Action Alliance program.
As you first heard from Bayshore Broadcasting News — the province will stop funding the 300 thousand dollar program at the health unit at the end of August.
Murdoch has started a petition to pressure the McGuinty Liberals to save the program.
The Progressive Conservative MPP says the program is worth more than the 300 thousand dollars to the youth of Bruce Grey.
Murdoch says the program also works better in rural Ontario.
He says the cutback is more proof the McGuinty Liberals are an urban based government and could care less about what happens in rural Ontario.
Murdoch also wonders if Minister of Health Promotion Margaret Best knew about the decision because she didn’t answer questions in the legislature about it.
The local MPP feels it is the bureaucrats who have made the decision to cut funding for the program.
Murdoch has delivered a concerned letter from Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn.
Murdoch has also passed around a petition — calling on the government to look at each Youth program in Ontario and keep the more effective programs alive.
