Local fundraising efforts to send three area veterans to Normandy have surprassed the goal.
Beverly Wood of Beverly’s on Main in Wasaga Beach raised five thousand dollars by displaying a toonie jar at her restaurant.
She says with other area fundraisers, eleven thousand dollars in total was raised.
The goal was ten thousand.
The vets from Collingwood, Chatsworth and Brampton left for Normandy Thrusday and arrive today.
Wood says the veterans will get the VIP treatment for the 65th D-Day anniversary events on Saturday.
The vets are being taken to Normandy by Venturebound Tours Inc. in Collingwood.
