Lower-tier municipalities in Bruce County can get some help in improving their downtown areas.
Director of Planning Chris La Forest says the County has set aside 20 thousand dollars to be used as leverage money.
He says the County can partner with municipalities to help them leverage money from other sources for downtown improvement.
LaForest says they can have their local planner put together policies and procedures, then their tourism staff can help them with marketing and promotions, and their landscaping staff can help out with the design.
He calls this initiative a perfect partnership between the County and lower-tier municipalities.
LaForest says they had brought in some consultants to evaluate their marketing plan.
He says the purpose is to re-examine their business model for tourism as they have spent lots of money on marketing and the consultants have told them that honesty in promoting downtowns is critical.
LaForest says the purpose of the marketing is to drive the bottom line of the tourism operators such as hotels and downtown businesses.
He says they have generated 70 percent of the Countys commercial assessment.
