The downturn in the economy has not only taken the wind out of the sails of many investors, many charities also are being hit by the financial storm.
Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce is seeing its fund raising efforts struggling because of the recession.
Habitat offiical Lucy Gowers says even though they just received a 60 thousand dollar award for construction of environmentally friendly homes, they are having a difficult time reaching this years fund raising goal of about 200 thousand dollars.
She says this latest build of four homes for four families in Wiarton will cost Habitat about four hundred to five hundred thousand dollars and they need donations to help replenish their development fund.
Gowers says when they have approached previous sponsors they have been told that there is simply not the funds available this year to help out Habitat because of the downturn in the economy.
She says during an economic crisis it is especially important to dig a little deeper deep and give to help those who have little or nothing.
Gowers says by providing housing to those in need, Habitat is helping people improve their personal life and that in turn means they will be helping improve the economy in the future as well.
