Owen Sound Police Service has been recognized for its outstanding work with the Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Sergeant Ted Kitto will receive the prestigious Award of Honour at a ceremony later this month which recognizes those who have given five years or more to the fundraising events.
Sergeant Kitto has been the local co ordinator for the Owen Sound Torch Run for the past seven years as well assisting with the annual Polar Bear Dip.
And the police force itself will receive the Torch Award which recognizes police services in the province that have raised more than a million dollars for the Torch Run.
Inspector Steve MacKinnon says they’re very proud of both honours.
He says the Owen Sound force has always been active and innovative when it comes to fundraising events for Special Olympics from the Polar Bear Dip to their annual NHL alumni game and more recently the Cufflinks Golf Tourney.
MacKinnon says you only have to go back to 2007 when Owen Sound became the smallest host the Special Olympics Winter Games and 99 percent of all police service employees volunteered for the event.
Chief Tom Kaye will receive the awards at a special ceremony in Sudbury June 22nd.
