Hanover is going after some big government dollars.
The town is applying for funding under the Community Adjustment Fund — a Federal governments stimulus initiative.
The application deadline is June 12th so there is just a short window opportunity for Hanover to take advantage of the new Federal grant program.
Because all projects must be shovel ready the town has narrowed it down to handful of projects.
They include:
-The demolition of the former Queen’s Hotel, a project estimated to cost 115 thousand dollars.
-The 10th Street Lighting and Streetscaping Project a 300 thousand dollar project.
-The Hanover Park Revitalization Project, a 150 thousand dollar venture.
-Staff also plan to apply for some street paving projects.
Hanover is going after 100 per cent funding for all the projects.
Priority will be given to communities that have suffered major layoffs resulting in significant job losses, something Hanover’s manufacturing sector has experienced.
Hanover Hearth Cabinets closed a few years ago and local residents have been laid off from area manufacturing plants.
The Community Adjustment Fund is geared towards projects that will provide a legacy of longer term ecological and/or economic benefits.
