Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has revealed more about the government’s Emergency Wage Subsidy.
He says all companies that have had revenues decrease by at least 30 per cent due to the Covid-19 crisis are eligible for it.
The number of employees you have doesn’t matter – the subsidy will cover non-profits, charities and both big and small companies.
For employees, the government will cover up to 75 per cent of your wages for the first $58,700 – that’s up to $847 a week and this will be backdated to March 15th. (Above audio)
The government is trusting companies to do the right thing and not take advantage of the system – Trudeau says there will be serious consequences for those who do.
Trudeau says companies who can pay the remaining 25 per cent of the subsidy should do so.
Trudeau also says the armed forces are gearing up to provide help, but that the Provinces haven’t asked the military to intervene yet.
But they could, he said, to provide medical equipment or other services.
Trudeau says those who wear the uniform are there to support you.
