About 50 Grade 11 students in Owen Sound and Walkerton have learned about social justice.
The students from St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart high schools participated in different university lectures at King’s University College at the University of Western Ontario in London last week.
It’s part of a new partnership that the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board has struck with the College.
The goal behind the partnership is to arm students with the knowledge and tools they need to implement their own social justice initiatives locally.
Director of Education Bruce MacPherson hopes the students will be inspired to put their own social justice projects into works in grade 12.
He says there are a variety of projects the students can take on — whether its helping the less fortunate, going on an overseas mission or visiting seniors at a nursing home.
MacPherson says its important to engage young people in social justice issues.
