How to build a better health care system.
That is the objective of a two day symposium that is underway in Owen Sound organized by the South West Local Health Integration Network.
About 200 health care professionals are attending this meeting to find ways to improver the delivery of health care to residents and what changes need to be implemented to meet health care needs in the future.
LHIN Board Chair Norm Gamble says they have been setting priorities over the past few years, but the real challenge now the hard work is to implement those measures.
He says what’s comes out this meeting will form a key part of the Health System Design Blueprint being developed by the LHIN which will guide its activities for the next three years.
Gamble says even though the LHIN covers an area from Tobermory to Lake Erie its size does not affect its ability to respond to the needs of smaller areas and partner with those groups in delivering health services.
LHIN CEO Michael Barrett says its important for them to get this input from the local health care providers so they can design a high quality sustainable health care system.
The two day meetings include health service providers from local hospitals, long term care homes, mental health and addiction agencies community health centres as well as family physicians and public health units.
