Starting today you’ll need a passport to cross over to the states.
Everyone over 16, both in the states and Canada, have to show the legal travel document or an enhanced driver’s license.
Your birth certificate is no longer good enough.

Some people say they’ve let their passport expire and have no intention of renewing it because they have no plans to travel anywhere.
A couple of others say they have the forms and their photos, they just have to make a point of getting everything in to the passport office, but they’re in no hurry.
One man we spoke to has family in the states, so he says he always makes sure his passport is up to date so he can go there in a moment’s notice if need be.
U-S authorities say for the first few days they’ll still let people who don’t have the right documents in.
But they say they will be telling travellers how to get the necessary ID.
