A Hanover councillor wants residents to take a lesson from the past.
Selwyn Hicks is encouraging the use of rain barrels.
He calls it a great way to reduce the amount of municipal water used to water lawns and gardens.
Hicks says it just makes good sense especially during these times of water conservation.
Because of this Hicks wants the town to consider promoting the use of rain barrels.
He wants the town to look into possibility of securing rain barrels for residents at a reduced cost.
Water conservation is a big issue in Hanover.
One of the town’s two wells has been off line for a number of years now and as a result Hanover has had to rely heavily upon Ruhl Lake to meet its water needs.
On top of all of this Hanover had to take its only other well off line this past week while it underwent repairs.
Residents have been asked to reduce the amount of municipal water they use during this time.
Those who do use rain barrels are reminded to either treat the water or use it up right away so the rain barrels don’t attract unwanted aquatic life such as mosquito larva.
