The 13th annual Cops for Cancer campaign in Grey Bruce is now into high gear.
The goal for the 13th annual Cops for Cancer campaign in Grey Bruce is 300 thousand dollars.
And the campaign got a big lift with events in Owen Sound, Markdale and Hanover yesterday.
About 25 thousand dollars was raised at the downtown Owen Sound event as 30 people lost their hair for cancer.
The rain didn’t dampen the spirit or enthusiasm in Hanover as they raised 45 hundred dollars.
Hanover Police Dispatcher Sue Hutchinson raised 13 hundred dollars after she was dared to enter the shave off by local police officers.
Hanover Police Sergeant Rob DeGroot has become a shave off veteran. This was 11th year to go under the razor.
DeGroot says he does it for the kids, noting this is one of the only cancer fundraisers that is specifically for children.
15 year old Team Captain and 10 year cancer survivor Melissa Noonan is pleased with everyone’s efforts.
Even though this years grand total of 45 hundred dollars is considerably less than last year’s 16 thousand dollar mark — Noonan says every dollar counts.
There are more Cops for Cancer events today in Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Lucknow and the Blue Mountains.
