Two local municipalities are saving money on life insurance for their employees.
Councils in Saugeen Shores and Arran-Elderslie have followed the recommendations of their brokers and have decided to switch to AIG-Sunlife.
Arran-Elderslie staff expect to save nearly nine thousand dollars per year, and Saugeen Shores staff project a savings of 12 thousand dollars per year.
Saugeen Shores Deputy Mayor Doug Freiburger says it amounts to an over two percent savings for the town and it shows the broker is working on its behalf and giving good advice.
Freiburger calls it a “breath of fresh air” to see costs going down instead of up.
He isn’t concerned about the municipality obtaining the service from a branch of the financially-troubled AIG.
Freiburger says AIG is involved in many different sectors and not all are in trouble, and council is most concerned about properly providing for staff and giving ratepayers the “best bang for their buck.”
