An Owen Sound girl is being granted her wish.
Kristen O’Neill was surprised today with the gift of a horse from the Make A Wish Foundation.
Director of the Ontario Chapter Sandy Hancox tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that O’Neill was expecting the horse next week.
She was told today’s meeting at Rolling Hills Farm in Georgian Bluffs was just to do some paperwork – but her new horse Melody was waiting for her.
Hancox says the 16 year old was sadly diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma last year, but is responding well to chemotherapy.
She says O’Neill thought long and hard about her wish and decided a horse would be a lifelong friend.
Hancox says Elite Equine has donated the horse and the Foundation will pay for board and keep for the first year.
As O’Neill’s wish is granted, the Foundation is marking a big milestone.
Hancox says while it’s not O’Neill’s, today they will grant their 15-thousandth wish.
She says to put it in perspective – that’s 3 wishes every single day across the country.
