An Owen Sound woman is counting down they days until she begins a marathon bicycle ride across Canada to raise money for Children’s Cancer Research.
Kathy Pecjak is one of 36 people chosen to take part in this years ride which begins in Vancouver June 13th and will end in Halifax 7 thousand kilometres and 12 days later on June 24th.
The ride is hoping to generate 2 million dollars for Children’s Cancer Research.
Pecjak and the other riders will bike their way down the Bruce Peninsula and into Owen Sound on June 19th and then head down to London.
She says the route will visit many of Canadas 17 pediatric oncology centres and hospitals where the cancer community will share stories of strength and hope with cyclists.
Pecjak says she has been training hard since November to be fit eough to take part in this ride, and most weekends cycles more than 400 kilometres to get into shape and does about 60 kilometres every day.
She says when the group sets out from Vancouver they will be accompanied by a bicycle technician to keep their expensive machines operating perfectly.
Pecjak says she has been fortunate that Cancer has not touched her or her family, but believes this a wonder full way to help those who are dealing with the effect of the disease on a daily basis.
