A task force has been set up to deal with the problem of Crystal meth in Grey Bruce.
Co-chair of the task force Sandy Stockman says she is overwhelmed by the positive response from different community leaders who have joined the group.
Stockman says police officials, school board officials, the area Crown Attorney, Medical officer of health and other Health officials have all agreed to take part.
The task force held it’s inaugural meeting this week in Owen Sound, and is working towards several goals including education for parents and teenagers.
She says because the production of Crystal Meth is more suited to rural areas, it is then also available for sale and there has been a dramatic increase in Meth use in southern Grey and Bruce counties.
Stockman says the task force was set up in response to a report in March that identified a number of concerns.
Those concerns include the prevelance of the drug, long-term consequences of drug use, the need for strong deterrents in the judicial system and a lack of parental awareness to the drug in our area.
Committees are now being struck and Stockman says they should be getting reports back by the fall on how the problem of Crystal Meth can be addressed in Grey Bruce.
