West Grey will begin diverting its e-waste from local landfills this weekend.
Council recently passed a bylaw prohibiting items such as computers, tv’s and cellphones from being thrown in the garbage.
Public Works Manager Ken Gould says residents can take their e-waste to the Durham landfill the last Saturday of every month where it’ll be collected and transferred to Stratford for recycling.
Gould says there will be a two dollar charge for each item dropped off.
He says its hoped the bylaw will discourage the growing practice of discarding such items in ditches and fields.
There’s also a 110 dollar fine for anyone caught dumping e-waste illegally.
The first drop off will be this Saturday at the Durham landfill from 9 AM to 3 PM.
Gould says the municipality will also be implementing a clear plastic bag system in September as another defence against those who still aren’t recycling.
