After five years of lobbying various Ontario Transportation Ministers, Grey and Bruce Counties may get a traffic light installed at the intersection of the Grey Bruce Line and Highway 21 at Alvanley.
Grey County Transportation Director Gary Shaw says the Transport Minister Jim Bradley has agreed to make the 1.5 million dollar upgrade a priority — provided the two counties and the MTO share the cost of the detailed design and environmental assessment.
The cost of that is expected to be in the 150 thousand dollar range and Grey county already has agreed to its one third share.
Shaw says next year a final coat of asphalt will be place on the northern part of the Grey Bruce line and he’s hoping then or the next year the grade line will be changed at that intersection to allow for either the installation of traffic lights or a traffic circle.
He says both options will be examined, but he feels there may not be enough land or money for the traffic circle option
Shaw is optimistic that some form of traffic control will be installed at the intersection possibly as early as next year but no later than 2011.
