Saugeen Shores Council is going ahead with the third phase of a study to see if the municipality should have a new indoor aquatic facility.
This phase will focus on the dollars and cents side of the project.
Monteith Brown Planning Consultants has been awarded the over 44 thousand dollar contract to conduct the third phase of the Next Wave study.
Community Services Director Mike Myatt says it will help develop an idea of how much it will cost to build the pool, operate it over a five-year period, and where it should be located.
Myatt says this phase will focus on the business side of the idea and help establish what amount of capital dollars are needed.
Vice Deputy Mayor Doug Gowanlock would like to see an analysis of public opinion included in the study because he isn’t convinced the public is in total support of a new facility to replace the aging Centennial Pool in Port Elgin.
Myatt says council is paying particular attention to this study because it involves the real costs they and the community want to know.
Myatt says the study could begin early in June and the findings compiled in a report in October or November.
